Engineering work, before product.

Mechatronics coursework and early professional work, from before I moved into product management. I read for a BASc in Mechatronics Engineering at Waterloo, 2013 to 2018.

ANSYS fatigue analysis on a bike frame

ANSYS

Bike frame fatigue analysis

Meshed the frame variably and mapped equivalent stress to find where it would crack first.

Carbon fibre tube cutting rig modelled in CATIA V5

CATIA V5

Carbon fibre tube cutting rig

An automated cutting system: sensors, motors, limit switches, an Arduino. I kept the mechanics dumb and ran it on bushings rather than anything clever.

SOLIDWORKS spice capsule mechanism for an automated cooker

SOLIDWORKS

Automated cooker spice capsules

A hopper that drops a measured amount of spice without clogging, and goes into the assembly from the top with no bolts.

Drone prototype parts built for PID tuning

SOLIDWORKS

Drone PID tuning fixtures

Early drone prototypes, plus rigs that lock out two axes so you can tune pitch, yaw, or roll on its own.

CATIA V5 telecommunications radio case design iterations

CATIA V5

Telecommunications radio case

Ports, antennas, snap locks, mechanical buttons. The COM-port material is transparent so the LEDs read through it.

Design for manufacture detail on a plastic component

DFM

Plastic component design

Ribs, wall thickness, transparent LED lenses, and some snap clips I was experimenting with. All of it aimed at parts that mould cleanly.

PCB assembly design and arm fixture work

CATIA V5

PCB assembly and arm fixture

Placed the board components, animated the microSD going in, and derived the fixture surfaces off the parts they had to hold.

MasterCAM tutorial book authored by Ji-Won Park

Authored

MasterCAM tutorial book

A tutorial I wrote for high school students: design a shield part, then rout it out of a wooden block in MasterCAM.
